Tuesday Aug 12. Day 1
Dublin to Helsinki
Distance cycled: 15 km
A smooth 3 hour flight from Dublin, arriving at 3:30 ( 2 hours ahead), Blueberry Juice and water served complimentary en route.
Raining as we landed (true to the forecast) but all cleared up by the time I started cycling.
Enquired at Info in Arrivals Hall re recycling the box. Informed just to leave it by the nearby bins. Nice.
Quickly assembled the bike there and set out at 4:45pm.
Navigated successfully out of the airport complex (it took a while) and on cycleways for the rest of the journey. I opted for the shorter 15km route (rather than the alt 31km route) to my accommodation due to weather and the fact that i had said I'd arrive around 6pm.
I was looping north-east around the top of Helsinki through business areas, suburbs but trees were abounding.
Very easy cycling (motorists most accommodating at crossings) and within an hour I had arrived at my accommodation location in Lansimaki..
I was booked into an apartment and it took a while to locate my particular one. At first I had gone to nearby 6 Taivaskero, Block B.(rather than 6 Pallaskero Block B) Rang Anton (Booking.com). He directed me to an e-mail with instructiond to access. Still didn't add up. made enquirers from a couple nearby who eventually and helpfully pointed me to the correct address. Then no problem...a series of codes gave me access.
Finally installed at 6:45 and then off to the market to source all the necessary for dinner (pizza) and tomorrow's breakfast. Job done....I'll not starve or be hungry.
I have the bike safely stored downstairs locked to the stair railing and ready for more movement tomorrow.
Thank God for the health and thank God for the energy.

First day down. Best of luck and safe cycling 🚲
